Travel Bantam Program:
The travel Bantam program is designed for the player that wants to play more games and be competitive. The emphasis is on skill development practicing twice a week and playing one to two games a week. There will be no overnights or Sunday practices or games unless the team is involved in a tournament. The team will only be involved in two tournaments. Twenty five to Thirty games will be played during the season with 50% at home and 50% within 1 1/2 hours from home ice. One tournament will be hosted at home and the other away. The second tournament and location is at the discretion of the coach and parents. They should match experience level and competition.
At the first half of the Bantam season each player should be able to perform all of the skills taught at the Mite, Squirt and Pee Wee level with improved proficiency and with a higher degree of intensity in both practice and games.
At the end of the Bantam level, each player should be able to:
A. Execute the 360 degree fake.
B. Perform various balancing skills including 1-blade backward skating, ankle rotations from inside to outside edges, etc.
C. Consistently demonstrate proper back - checking techniques.
D. Perform three different methods of winning face-offs and consistently demonstrate face-off theory.
E. Properly execute a shoulder, hip and poke check.
F. Protect himself while taking a shoulder or hip check.
G. Execute the proper technique of the slap shot, tip – in, and deflections.
H. Understand angles and demonstrate the use of the boards in various situations.
I. “Play the Man” in various situations.
J. Exchange positions with other teammates during play, especially in the offensive zone.
K. Demonstrate proper positioning for killing penalties, both for one and two man short situations.
L. Use advanced team concepts (use boards, pass-behind, off – ice, etc.) in moving the puck from zone to zone.
M. Execute two fore-checking systems (ie. 2-1-2 & 1-2-2).
N. Perform at least two power play variations.
O. Successfully do basic conditioning & strength skills and be willing to work off-season on developing these areas.
P. Explain and perform the attitude of being a positive, Contributing athlete who understands the “Saints Hockey Pride” philosophy.
Parent Involvement!
We request parent involvement during the hockey season and at fund raisers.
We do not require mandatory hours.
Our association is a fully volunteer family that keeps the rink and concession stand functioning.
Please let us know what area you would like to be involved in: any skills you have, its fun to be involved, share your talents, and support your children in this way.
