You have probably heard statements from friends that say, "I will never have my child play hockey because it is so expensive!", or "I have had my child in hockey and we had to work mandatory hours or get charged for the hours we don't work!"
Those statements are not true here at the Central Wisconsin Saints Hockey Association. We are strictly a volunteer organization with no mandatory hours, but we always invite members to help when and where they can. Since our expense structure for running our Goal's & Dream's Ice Arena is manageable, we are able to pass those low costs on to our members. Along with fundraising requirements we have the lowest hockey program fees in the State of Wisconsin. You can check out fundraising requirements here. But guess what, if you are in the Learn to Skate/Play Hockey/Cross-Ice Program; you have no fundraising requirements!
Ok, what are my cost's going to be for my first year of hockey?
- If you are in the FREE Learn to Skate/Play Hockey/Cross-Ice Program, your program fees are zero.
- If your child is 6 or younger your USA Hockey and WAHA (Wisconsin Amateur Hockey Association) fee's are also zero. If your child is 7 or older you will need to pay USA Hockey $30 and WAHA $10. These fees pay for the administration, insurance, USA Hockey magazine and other projects that USA Hockey and WAHA provide to not only our organization but all the affiliate organizations throughout the United States.
- Equipment is obviously another cost, without the equipment you might as well just be a spectator. Hockey equipment costs can run anywhere from $125 for very basic equipment needs to $2,500 for goalie equipment. We offer a $75 refundable equipment deposit for all first year skaters; if you are in your second year or more the equipment fee is $75. You can check out the Hockey Equipment tab for more detailed information.
- Travel expenses to and from the rink.
So if your child is enrolled in the FREE Learn to Skate/Play Hockey/Cross-Ice Program and he/she is 6 years old or younger and you are provided with 99% of your equipment for a $75 refundable deposit; is hockey too expensive? I think you would agree that the answer is NO. Obviously you will have some costs such as the items that are not included in your equipment rental but comparatively you are getting your money's worth to have your child play this great game of hockey.
